Innovation is the key to success

Being one of the strongest players in innovating the financial sector within the Russian Federation and in the Republic of Uzbekistan in the 1990ies, we have since then built strong economic relations within these markets and gained professional expertise in developing and customizing payment products for these ecosystems. This can be observed from the very first steps in the early nineties establishing a technology for business travelers to move their money across remote Russian regions, to the subsequent tremendous undertaking of building a nationwide interbank payment system Uzcard in Uzbekistan, and presently implementing state-of-the-art Mobile Payment solutions for VTB Bank, the second largest bank in Russia. Our activities have since then expanded to over 30 implementations of our technology with banks and financial institutions in Russia, the CIS, the Middle East and Asia.

Oman - e-government payments

Oman Arab Bank (OAB) is the leading corporate bank in the Sultanate of Oman. It is an affiliate of the Arab Bank Group in Jordan, which is the largest single banking group in the Middle East. In a move of industry leadership, OAB decided to address the difficult challenges the government and payment industry was facing by establishing the infrastructure for, and then providing the required e-Payment services to the Omani government for both the corporate and retail segments. In early 2003 the Omani Government and OAB launched the 1st e-government smart card payment system in Oman. BGS SmartCard Payment Platform technology enabled the Bank to create logical “payment zones” so that the dedicated use of funds, in particular for the B2G segment could be streamlined.

The e-Government solution is running successfully and profitably in all government ministries including airports and seaports, Royal Oman Police, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Ministry of Man Power (labour fees and renewals/income taxes)and Muscat Municipality. The largest telecom and private enterprise in Oman (PTT) is also offering OAB payment facilities in all of its 40 branches for telephone and utility bill payments. As OAB and the government commence their fifteenth year of operations with the smart card solution, transaction volumes are reaching several hundred million Euros with hundreds of thousands of transactions being processed.

Uzbekistan - Uzcard

The beginning of the “Smart card-era” of Uzbekistan goes back to 1995. At that time the two largest financial institutions of the country, the National Bank for Foreign Economic Relation and the Savings Bank were confronted with serious problems in the processing and handling of clearing transactions. The existing methods proved to be outdated and inefficient – a technology shift was overdue. The BGS SmartCard Payment Platform seemed to be the right choice as it not only provided retail payments based on smart cards but all kind of funds transfer in a very secure way throughout all the levels of the front- and back office. The BGS SmartCard Payment Platform represented a sophisticated bundle of software solutions for such tasks as the issuance of cards, protection of data, processing and settlement of payments as well as interbank settlement. By 2006 the BGS Card branded there as “Uzcard” had established itself as the national electronic payment tool of Uzbekistan”
